The solution to in-orbit servicing

Using electromagnetism as an alternative solution

CubeSat docking is a major area of interest in the aerospace industry, to prepare an evolving space architecture to autonomy and assembly.

Imagine the possibilities…

Repair of CubeSat components

Capture of defunct CubeSats

CubeSat refueling

With successful satellite docking there is potential for the chaser spacecraft to make repairs on the target autonomously. This could lead to a space architecture that has accelerated manufacturing for the future of space commerce and exploration.

There are an estimated 3,000 satellites in orbit that are no longer functioning, which raise the concern of space debris damaging valuable assets in orbit. However, capturing these with our docking system could potentially de-orbit defunct satellites faster.

Having enough propellant in small satellites is a daunting challenge. With many constaints due to the small amount of mass and size, there are extensive limits on accounting for enough fuel on long-term or high-impulse missions. Succesful docking manuevers to refuel a target could be key in mission success.

Why electromagnetic docking?

Using magnets for docking is cheaper and easier to use than traditional propulsion methods! It’s also more sustainable for the future of space because they can be reused!

The small satellite industry is currently projected to grow 500% in market value by 2034.
